(4:36:52 PM) ALog45: life is about to get different homie

True story. Tomorrow I leave for Rome. I’ve got a 10:40am flight out of Bush-Intercontinental which stops in Newark for a couple hours before continuing on to Leonardo da Vinci Fiumicino Airport. Months of anticipation and hours of paperwork are about to culminate in what I’m sure will be an all-around awesome experience. The plane is scheduled to arrive in Rome at about 8:00am local time (six hours ahead of EST). The game plan is to grab a taxi, hopefully with some other kids on the same program, and make our way to the campus.

By the way, the program I’m referring to is Trinity College’s Rome Campus. You can read all about it here. Why Rome? That’s a fair question with a complicated answer. A better one might be “why this particular program?” Because they offer Ancient Greek classes. Seriously. As part of Bucknell’s curriculum for Classics majors, students are required to take two semesters of either Latin or Ancient Greek. I chose the latter, and Trinity’s Rome program is one of the few that offers it. That sort of sealed the deal on my decision to apply to this program. It doesn’t hurt that it happens to be in Rome, either.

So, yes, I’m going to the heart of the Roman Empire to study Ancient Greek and, no, I don’t speak a word of Italian. But I’m not worried. It’s an adventure. And who doesn’t like an adventure?  Life’s about to get different.  And, frankly, I’m thrilled.
